On June 18, 1943, at about 5 p. m., plaintiff was driving his automobile on Garden Avenue, East Palo Alto, outside the city limits. Garden Avenue has an oil and gravel surface and is eighteen to twenty feet wide. There are no sidewalks. Within two and one-half or three feet of one of the edges of the highway at the place of the accident there is a solid hedge six to nine feet high, about one hundred and thirty-five feet long.
