The plaintiffs, William L. Johndrow and Ila Johndrow, commenced suit against the state *720of Connecticut seeking to recover for injuries sustained by William Johndrow when a truck owned by the state collided with his motor vehicle. At the time of the accident, Johndrow was acting in the course of his employment with Nutmeg Piping Supply and Service, Inc. (Nutmeg). Johndrow and Nutmeg had executed workers’ compensation agreements that were approved by the workers’ compensation commissioner.
