The plaintiff, the commissioner of labor, instituted this action on behalf of six individual claimants1 seeking the recovery of unpaid wages due from the defendants to the claimants pursuant to General Statutes § 31-72.2 The trial court found in favor of *207the plaintiff, concluding that the defendants3 Venture Partners, Ltd., Gary Laskowski and Jonathan Betts were liable for the payment of those unpaid wages.
