The defendant, Ruben Roman, appeals from the judgment of conviction, rendered after a jury trial, *196of murder in violation of General Statutes § 53a-54a,1 assault in the first degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-59 (a) (1),2 criminal possession of a pistol or revolver in violation of General Statutes § 53a-217c (a) (1)3 and risk of injury to a child in violation of General Statutes (Rev. to 1997) § 53-21 (1).4 On appeal, the defendant claims that the court improperly (1) deprived him of his constitutional right to present a defense when it failed to instruct the jury…
