The defendant, Antonio Rivera, appeals from the judgments of conviction,2 rendered after a jury trial, of assault in the first degree in violation of General Statutes §§ 53a-59 (a) (1) or (5)3 and 53-202k,4 criminal possession of a firearm in violation of General Statutes (Rev. to 1997) § 53a-217 (a) (l),5 carrying a pistol or revolver without a permit in violation of General Statutes (Rev. to 1997) § 29-35 (a) and tampering with a witness in violation of General Statutes § 53a-151.
