I. NATURE AND STAGE OF THE PROCEEDINGS

Plaintiff California Medical Products, Inc. (“CalMed”), also known as Laerdal California, commenced this action for patent infringement on November 18, 1991. CalMed alleges that defendant Tecnol Medical Products (“Tecnol”) manufactures and sells a cervical collar, the 911 First Response Col lar (the “911 collar”), which infringes U.S. Patent Re. 32,219 (the ’219 patent) both literally and under the doctrine of equivalents.
