FLYNN, J.
The plaintiff, Francis Pearce, appeals from the decision of the workers’ compensation review board (board) affirming the determination by the workers’ compensation commissioner (commissioner) that the *442plaintiffs claim for benefits was untimely. We affirm the board’s decision.
The following facts are not in dispute. The plaintiff, after passing a preemployment physical in 1978, began working for the New Haven fire department.
