On December 14, 1984, James and Joan Scanlon were paying guests at the Imperial Palace Hotel in Las Vegas. While they were in their room on that date, a man dressed in a “hotel service type” uniform appeared in the room, robbed the couple and raped Joan Scanlon. Consequently, in 1986, the Scanlons commenced an action against the Imperial Palace Hotel and its owners (collectively referred to as Imperial Palace).
