A jury convicted defendant Elmer Clarence Hampton of two counts of conspiracy to commit the crimes of grand theft auto, grand theft and forgery (Pen. Code, §§ 182, subd. 1, 487, subd. 3, 487, subd. 1, 470) and seventeen separate substantive offenses, including grand theft auto, forgery, possession of completed check with intent to defraud (Pen. Code, § 475a), grand theft and attempted grand theft (Pen. Code, §§ 664, 487, subd. 1). Hampton was sentenced to prison for an aggregate term of five years and four months.
