*429OPINION OF THE COURT

COOK, Judge:

The appellant was tried by general court-martial for a violation of Article 118, Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), 10 U.S.C. § 918 (premeditated murder) but was found guilty of a violation of Article 119, UCMJ, 10 U.S.C. § 919 (voluntary manslaughter). He was sentenced as noted above.

On Friday, 17 December 1971, appellant returned to his quarters at approximately 1700 hours and found his wife’s dead body. She had sustained eight stab wounds in her neck, chest and abdomen. There were also some deep cuts on her right hand and wrist, apparently inflicted…
