On February 19, 1994, the plaintiff was injured in an automobile accident. At the time of the accident, the plaintiff was insured under a standard Massachusetts automobile insurance policy (policy) issued by the defendant, Metropolitan Property & Casualty Insurance Company.

Prior to the accident, from November, 1991, until February *2811, 1994, the plaintiff was employed by Crescent Ridge Dairy as a driver earning $420.17 per week.
