The accused, Garcia, a civilian seaman employed by the Military Sea Transportation Service, was convicted, following trial by an Army general court-martial in Japan, of (1) robbery, (2) wrongful appropriation of a motor vehicle, and (3) escape from lawful confinement — in violation of Articles 122, 121, and 95, respectively, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 50 USC §§ 716, 715, 689. He was sentenced to confinement at hard labor for nine months, to a fine of $500.00, and to further confinement until payment of the fine, but not in excess of four…
