The present appeal arises under R.C. 2744.02(C) and R.C. 2501.02, which authorize interlocutory appeals of orders denying political subdivisions and their employees the benefit of immunity from liability. The employees in this case were Robert Bobbitt, Chief of the Miamisburg Fire Department, and Dennis Lutz, a captain in the department. Bobbitt and Lutz were sued for defamation and for allegedly intentionally inflicting emotional distress; on appellee, Orpheus Garrison, who took a medical retirement from the department in 1997.
