A tenured teacher with nineteen years’ service commenced this action in November, 1982, following his dismissal by the school committee. G. L. c. 71, § 43A (1984 ed.). The teacher was dismissed by the committee on October 13, 1982, after a hearing. He sought relief in the alternative: either an order compelling arbitration under G.
