The plaintiffs appeal from that portion of a judgment that denied their motion to vacate an arbitrator’s award and allowed a motion to confirm the arbitrator’s award. They also challenge certain rulings of the judge. At the heart of the plaintiffs’ appeal is their objection to the arbitrator’s decision that, under the relevant collective bargaining agreement, layoffs of teachers in Worcester should have been conducted on the basis of seniority without any consideration (except perhaps in the case of any tie) of language in the collective bargaining agreement that, the plaintiffs argue, also…
