I. Introduction

Madeleine Fletcher (“Fletcher” or “the plaintiff’) is a former employee of defendant Tufts University (“Tufts”). During the time of her employment, Tufts provided its employees, including Fletcher, with the opportunity to subscribe to a long-term disability benefits plan (the “LTD Plan” or “the Plan”) issued by defendant Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (“MetLife”).
