SUTTELL, Justice.
A nine-week-old baby girl is horrifically injured — nineteen fractures with no immediate explanation about how the injuries occurred, no smoking gun to cast blame on a depraved perpetrator. This case brings into sharp focus the inherent difficulties of our legal system, as well as its strengths, as it attempts to sort through the myriad vexations of human affairs that it is called upon to adjudicate in its search for the truth.
