WOLLMAN, Circuit Judge.

James C. Wright appeals the district court’s 1 denial of his petition for habeas corpus under 28 U.S.C. § 2254 (1987). Wright argues that the district court erred in finding that his claims were either procedurally barred or without merit. We affirm.

On November 3, 1978, while awaiting trial for aggravated robbery in Boone County, Arkansas, Wright escaped from jail. One week later he was charged by information with first-degree escape and was arrested. Wright was tried and convicted for the robbery on January 29, 1979.
