STEPHENS, Associate Justice.

This is an appeal from a judgment of the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia (now the District Court of the United States for the District of Columbia1) entered upon a verdict directed for the plaintiff (appellee). The suit was upon a promissory note. The defense was absence of consideration.
