The defendant, Samuel R. Scott, was convicted of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone. 720 ILCS 570/401(d), 407(b)(2) (West 1996). The trial court sentenced him to 12 years’ imprisonment. Defendant filed a postconviction petition, which was dismissed by the trial court.
