This action was brought by plaintiff, as receiver, to recover certain property and money alleged to have been conveyed and transferred by- defendant Wells, an insolvent debtor, to defendant Palmer, with a view of giving a preference to certain creditors, contrary to the provisions of the “insolvent law,” Palmer having, at the time, “reasonable cause to believe” that Wells was insolvent.
