ALMA WILSON, Justice:

The appellee, Anthony C. Eversole, Jr., was involved in a motor vehicle accident on April 21, 1984. When he was taken to the appellant hospital, he underwent a laparot-omy and a surgical repair of a liver laceration on the same day. He progressed well. After spending a few days in intensive care, he was moved to the surgical floor and was making nice progress. He was advanced from no food by mouth to full liquids by mouth, to a soft diet.
