BRORBY, Circuit Judge.

This case is a paradigm of one of the central problems of litigation today — the problem being the length of time it takes for a lawsuit to resolve once it commences. The events giving rise to this litigation largely occurred more than a decade ago, and the initial complaint was filed in October, 1981. Since the filing of the complaint under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 42 U.S.C. § 1981, there has been one trial, an appeal and remand, and further proceedings in the district court.
