With limited exceptions, the Home Improvement Act, General Statutes § 20-418 et seq., makes a home improvement contract that is not in writing unenforceable in an action either for breach of contract or for unjust enrichment. Barrett Builders v. Miller, 215 Conn. 316, 322, 576 A.2d 455 (1990). The principal issue in this case is whether the services performed by a contractor in installing a modular home at a new site and in making improvements to the newly installed home qualify for the statutory exception for contracts for the construction of a new home.
