The plaintiff is a farmer 37 years old. On the 28th of October, 1916, he brought a load of hay to the market in Jackson. The main line of the Michigan Central railroad passes over Mechanic street on a bridge. Just north of this overhead bridge, a distance of about 25 feet, the Valley branch of the Michigan Central railroad passes over Mechanic street at grade, and is guarded by gates operated by a man who stood on the west side of the street.
