OPINION
SHEA, Justice.
These matters came before the Supreme Court on a statutory petition for certiorari brought by the Providence Gas Company (Providence Gas or the company), pursuant to G.L.1956 (1990 Reenactment) § 39-5-1.1 The company seeks review of the report and order of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC or the commission) dated August 18, 1993. By that report and order, the PUC deferred certain expenses sought by the company to a pending rate case, docket No. 2082.
