On June 1, 2009, National Grid (or the company) filed an application with the Public Utilities Commission (the commission or PUC) in which it sought additional revenues for its electricity distribution operations in Rhode Island.1 In its filing, the company requested an increase in electric distribution rates sufficient to enable it to collect additional revenues of $75.3 million, an increase of 33 percent.2 The Division of Public Utilities and Carriers3 (the division) opposed the company’s rate request; it recommended that the PUC reduce the…
