GARDEBRING, Justice.
This case involves the adoption of 2-year-old D.L., who has lived with her foster parents since four days after her birth in July 1989. The foster parents and D.L.’s maternal grandparents both filed petitions to adopt the child after the parental rights of D.L.’s natural mother and father were terminated.
