The plaintiff recovered a judgment for personal injuries. The defendant appeals from the judgment and from an order denying his motion for a new trial.

The defendant conducted, in the city of Los Angeles, a retail store known as the “Broadway Department Store.” The business was carried on in a four-story building. Three passenger elevators were operated therein for the use of customers and employees of the defendant.
