WILLIAMS, Circuit Judge:

On October 21, 1993, a Commonwealth of Virginia jury convicted Lonnie Weeks, Jr., of the capital murder of Virginia State Trooper Jose Cavazos. Following the jury’s determination that Weeks’s conduct satisfied the “vileness” aggravating factor, the trial court sentenced Weeks to death.
