A panel of officers sitting as a special court-martial convicted Private First Class Amanda Moss, in absentia and contrary to her pleas, of one specification of desertion terminated by apprehension in violation of Article 85, Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), 10 U.S.C. § 885 (2012). The panel sentenced Moss to reduction to E-l, forfei- ■ ture of $978.00 pay per month for twelve months, confinement for six months, and a bad-conduct discharge.
