PERRY, Judge:

The appellant was convicted by general court-martial on April 18, 1973, of three lengthy absences without leave totaling approximately 35 months, in violation of Article 86, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. § 886. He was sentenced to a bad conduct discharge, confinement at hard labor for 1 year, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and reduction to the lowest enlisted grade. The convening authority approved both the findings and the sentence, as ultimately did the Navy Court of Military Review on July 25, 1974, after having in the interim returned…
