This is an appeal by defendants from a judgment in favor of plaintiff, an attorney at law, entered upon the verdict of a jury awarding plaintiff $14,000 in an action brought by him to recover a fee for professional services rendered.

It appears from the record, and the same is not disputed, that the services in question were rendered for and at the request of one Henry E. Sherer as conservator of the Bank of San Pedro, a state bank, acting as such conservator under appointment by the State Superintendent of Banks pursuant to the provisions of the General Laws of California, popularly known as…
