A rather ingenious scheme of profit-making involving a number of military postal clerks was in full operation at an Army Postal Unit in Japan. The accused, who had been assigned as a clerk in the unit, was “let in” on the scheme by his fellow workers. The modus operandi of those involved began with the collection of cancelled postage stamps from numerous sources, among which were individual stamp collectors, the stamp section of a Japanese department store, and discarded envelopes and packages found at the postal unit.
