The record discloses the following facts: For some time prior to February 2, 1898, one H. C. Jeffers was running a merchandise store in the city of Spokane, Spokane county, Washington, under the name of the Spokane Notion Company. He had become heavily involved for goods purchased, and also claimed to he owing the appellant, who is his mother-in-law, some $1,845, for money borrowed. Shortly prior to the date mentioned, one of these creditors brought an action against Jeffers for a small amount, and Jeffers consulted an attorney as to the…
