SULLIVAN, J.

The defendant, Edward Andrews, pleaded guilty to murder in violation of General Statutes § 53a-54a (a)1 in connection with a homicide that he allegedly committed on July 28, 1994. The Appellate Court affirmed the judgment of guilty rendered by the trial court, which had denied the defendant’s motion to withdraw his plea, and this court granted his petition for certification to appeal limited to the following issue: “Whether the Appellate Court properly concluded that the defendant knowingly had entered a guilty plea to murder where the trial court failed to inform him,…
