It will be observed that the controversy relates to the alleged duties of the plaintiff during the period from January 1, 1936, to December 31, 1938. The Unemployment Compensation law was passed in 1935, Oregon Laws, Special Session, Chapter 70, p. 150. It was amended by Chapter 398, Oregon Laws, 1937, effective March 11, 1937. On the latter date the law was changed in many and important respects. The crucial definitions of the words “employer” and “employment” as found in the two acts differ materially.
