MIHALAKOS, J.

The defendant, Jason Scott, appeals from the judgment of the trial court denying his motion *335to correct an illegal sentence. On appeal, the defendant claims that the trial court improperly denied his request for counsel to be provided to him in connection with his motion to correct. The state contests our subject matter jurisdiction to hear the defendant’s appeal. The state concedes, however, that if this court has jurisdiction, the matter warrants a remand to the trial court with direction to appoint counsel for the defendant.
