In November 1999, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia entered findings of fact in the United States Department of Justice’s federal antitrust suit (“federal antitrust action”) against Microsoft Corporation (“Microsoft”). 1 Shortly thereafter, in January 2000, the plaintiffs, Cynthia Aikens, Jacqueline Belfield, and Amber Cisney (collectively “the plaintiffs”), sued Microsoft in Louisiana state court on behalf of a putative class of Louisiana residents who had purchased Microsoft operating system software.
