EVERETT, Chief Judge:

Pursuant to his pleas, the appellant was convicted by special court-martial of making a false official statement, in violation of Article 107, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. § 907.1 That specification alleges that on August 23, 1977, the appellant, with intent to deceive, made to Staff Sergeant R. A.
