When Debra Ewing 1 died of muscular dystrophy at age 31, her uncle, the Reverend Columbus Ewings, collected over $970,-000 as the beneficiary of numerous insurance policies on her life. Between 1971 and 1982, Reverend Ewings had applied for and purchased twenty insurance policies on the life of his niece from nine different companies, naming himself as the beneficiary of each.
