We note at the outset of our discussion that defendant has abandoned Assignments of Error Nos. 1, 4, 7, and 8 by failing to *604advance any argument in his brief to support them. N.C. R. App. P. 28(a). On the basis of his six remaining assignments of error, defendant contends that the trial court erred by denying his motions to dismiss for insufficient evidence the charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and of felonious possession of stolen property, by denying his request for special jury instructions, and by allowing prejudicial statements to influence his sentence for…
