Plaintiff Joan Lovell (“Lovell”), a school teacher, filed suit against the Comsewogue School District (“School District”) and the principal of Comsewogue High School, Joseph Relia (“Relia”), pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1988, alleging that the defendants violated her right to equal protection by failing to take reasonable measures to prevent students from harassing her due to her homosexuality.
