The defendant, Mark W. St. John, appeals from the judgment of conviction, rendered after a jury trial, of robbery in the second degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-135 (a) (2) 1 and kidnapping in the first degree with a firearm in violation of General Statutes § 53a-92a (a). 2 On appeal, 3 the defendant claims that the trial court improperly: (1) admitted dog tracking evidence without conducting a formal hearing pursuant to State v.
