OPINION

REINHARDT, Circuit Judge.

We again confront the interplay of excessive force and qualified immunity in a case in which a mentally disturbed individual suffers serious injuries as a result of an encounter with police officers. Once again, we reverse the grant of summary judgment in favor of the officers and remand for a trial on the merits.
