OPINION
GILBERT, Justice.
Kevin Lee Tomlin, a city of Duluth police officer, was convicted of obstruction of legal process under Minn.Stat. § 609.50, subd. 1(2) (1996). 1 Tomlin lied to police to cover up for his Mends who were involved in a hit-and-run accident. Tomlin was charged with and a jury found him guilty of obstruction of legal process in violation of MinmStat. § 609.50, subd. 1. The court of appeals reversed the conviction holding that Tomlin’s actions did not physically obstruct the officers as required by State v.
