The government was the plaintiff in the court below, and brings this writ of error to review a judgment for the claimant entered upon the verdict of a jury. 105 Fed. 357. The action was brought to condemn as forfeited to the United States certain jewelry, the property of the claimant, seized June 24, 1899, by the collector of the port of New York, upon the theory that it had been introduced into the United States in violation of the revenue laws.
