This case stems from the gas station robbery and murder of two people in Newark, New Jersey. Five individuals were charged with these crimes. The evidence of the roles and conduct of the defendants in the commission of the charged crimes was conflict*216ing. Four defendants were eventually tried in separate proceedings by the same prosecutor.
