The appellant entered into a written contract with his father, 'William Stevens, of which the following is a copy:
“ This agreement made this 2d day of August, 1877, by and between William Stevens and Sampson Stevens of Union county, in the State of Indiana, witnesseth: The said William Stevens on his part agrees, in consideration of the sum of fourteen thousand dollars, to be paid by the said Sampson R.
