¶ 1. Attorney Mark A. Phillips appeals from the referee's report and recommendation that his license to practice law in Wisconsin be suspended for a period of one year, that he be ordered to pay $145,000 and certain related expenses to his former client R.M., and that he be ordered to pay the costs of this proceeding. After our independent review of the record, we adopt the referee's findings of fact and conclusions of law. We also agree that Attorney Phillips' misconduct requires that his license to practice law be suspended for a period of one year, that he make certain restitutionary…
